Every mark tells a story. Every symbol carries weight.
When we set out to create something that would represent Vitoso—not just as a logo, but as an emblem of what we stand for—we knew it needed to be more than aesthetic. It needed to be grounded in roots.
In the West Country, there's a phrase that's been passed down through generations: "Gurt dog." A creature of loyalty, strength, and quiet companionship. One that walks beside you through wild weather and uncertain paths. One that doesn't need commands to understand needs.
That's where we started.
At the heart of our mark sit two dogs—one male, one female—facing each other in perfect symmetry. A representation of balance. These dogs are guardians, yes, but they're also equals. Partners. A reminder of meetings to moments.
The dogs frame something older still: a shield. A coat of arms, if you will, though not in the traditional sense of aristocracy or inherited titles. This is a modern classic, a nod to heritage without being bound by it.
Inside, four quadrants tell our story.
The Ballet Shoe
Starting at the bottom left quadrant, this is where our name was born—behind the red velvet curtains of the Royal Opera House. When my grandmother took my mother by the hands and said, "You're my Vitoso."
A mispronunciation of virtuoso which held more truth than the original ever could. Vitoso. The pursuit of perfection. A word that was kept within the family until now.
The Pause Sign
In the top right quadrant, two vertical lines appear. Simple and deliberate. This represents our philosophy of meetings to moments—stopping long enough to be present, to notice, to exist in a world that constantly demands you keep moving. The breath before decision. The pause before adventure. The stillness that makes everything feel real.
The Sheep
Our beginning. Our foundation material. Wool and wool-cashmere blends form the backbone of our very first pieces. Sheep have provided warmth and protection for thousands of years, grazing the same West Country hills where the phrase "gurt dog" was born. This symbol represents our starting point: natural fibres, adaptive materials, pieces built to last. A toast to taking the scenic route instead of the shortcut.
The "V"
Clean. Central. Unmistakable. The V sits at the top left of the shield because it sits right at the start of our name. The V can also be found further within multiple parts of our logo imagery.
Other heritage brands have their lions, their knights, their Latin mottos etched in gold.
We have two gurt dogs and a grandmother's mispronunciation. We have a pause sign in a world that won't slow down. We have ballet shoes that danced on stages we'll never see, sheep that graze the same landscape our materials protect us from, and a V at the start of everything still to come.
