I would always reach for a cap without thinking. I never quite knew why. Maybe it was just to keep the sun out my eyes or the cold off my head. More likely, it was the quickest way to solve messy hair.
It took two years of drafts, sketches, tests and samples to finally create a piece I'd wear, not for the look alone but the practicality too. We made several different pieces, all of which seemed right at the time, but they weren't forever pieces. The Cashmere cap was the first piece where the vision of Vitoso became clear.
British seasons are a guessing game. One minute you'll walking the dogs through a sunny field, the next is spent using the closest tree as cover. The goal was to create a cap that would hold up across all of it. This lead us to a fabric milled using a tightly woven cashmere wool blend. The natural oils in the wool allow it to absorb up to 30% percent of its weight in moisture before dampening. The fabric is double lined, keeping the inside dry even when the sky isn't. The inner rim carries a woven cotton sweatband, drawn from the earth tones of the Somerset countryside during winter. It sits in quiet contrast to Hawthorn and Dusk cashmere dyes.
The focus stays on the material and the silhouette opposed to Logo's and embroideries. A cap meant for the meetings as much as the moments between them. Finished with our subtle pause symbol. A gentle reminder to stop, savour and share.
